Preadoption and Adoption Services
I started an international adoption clinic with Dr. Larry Gray at University of Chicago approximately 5 years ago. I had been on faculty at University of Chicago, and the hospitalist taking care of children with complex medical needs at La Rabida Children's Hospital. I am currently now in private practice with Evanston Northwestern medical group in Deerfield Illinois.Our clinic has been featured on NBC and WGN. Our clinic is focused on the unique developmental and medical needs of internationally adopted children.
Services Offered
Preadoption Referral and Consultation
-Initial meeting and consultation to review anthrometric data such as height, weight, head circumference and any pictures or videos, as well as answer questions and discussing concerns
-This visit is usually 45 minutes to an hour and we usually to this in person because of the very sensitive nature of this kind of review.
- most of the adoption consults are typically Chinese, Korean, Russian, Kazakh, Guatemalan, and Vietnamese
- A detailed summary of our report and consultation for your agency and records
- The doctor is available to you during your travel via email and/ or phone to consult with you regarding the health of your child
-The initial consult is $400 and is usually not covered by insurance as most insurance companies require to the child to be present in the United States to bill.
-We also provide prescriptions for common pediatric issues that come up including scabies, atopic dermatitis asthma or reactive airways if known, and occasionally, and antibiotic prescriptions depending on the country of origin. We want you to be as well-prepared as possible for this wondrous and challenging time.
Postadoption Visits and Consultation
We can usually arrange a consult visit within 24-48 hours of your referral.
• A new arrival (fresh off the plane visit) , which is usually covered by a medical insurance. A New Arrival visit within 2-14 days of arrival which include:
o a detailed thorough review of the child's medical and developmental needs
o a comprehensive physical exam
o laboratory testing (comprehensive)
o review of growth parameters
o Tuberculosis screening
o Much oohing and aahing of your new bundle of joy
• Follow up visits which usually includes between 2-6 visits within the first two months of arrival including:
o Recommendations individually tailored toward your child regarding ways to optimize child development
o A review of your child's growth trajectory
o Vaccination or revaccinations as indicated
o Lab results review
Appropriate specialty referrals such as endocrinology,dermatology, cardiology, ENT, infectious disease, and developmental pediatrics to name some of the more common referrals
